Biography
Amanda Ego Justina Asagba (Nee DEMECHI) is a Lawyer, Human Rights Activist, Gender Researcher, Mediator, Arbitrator, Notary Public and the President of African Women Lawyers
Association (AWLA), the Parent / Umbrella Body of the Association, founded in 1997 in Kenya.
Education & other engagements
She is the immediate past President of African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Nigeria Chapter.
She is the Principal Partner of Amanda D Asagba Chambers established, in 2005, with bias for Corporate Practice, Family Law, Real Estate, Human Rights, International Law
and Immigration. A legal adviser with many corporate retainers.
She is the Founder and President of Legal Pool for Justice and Equity Initiative founded in 2013 with the goal to
grant the indigent, vulnerable and marginalized access to justice.
She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. She obtained a Masters in International Law and
Diplomacy (MILD) in 1991, from the University of Lagos. She has worked in leading Law
Firms.
She had a stint in the sciences at VMT Washington DC USA 2001-2003
She is a member of many boards and professional Associations and a member of the National Executive council of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), The Council of Legal Education and the Secretary of the Governing Council of The Citizens’ Mediation Center
(CMC).
Results
She has facilitated and attended international and regional conferences.
She is an authority
in many areas in which she has done extensive research, presented papers, written articles and reports.
She is a consultant duly recognized internationally and locally and a recipient of many awards for Excellence, Commitment and Dedication to the Welfare of Women and Children.
She has trodden uncommon legal paths, lending her voice to the call for Children’s welfare, women’s emancipation and increased political participation among other issues in Nigeria.
