Biography
Atty. Tonieh Alexandra Talery-Wiles has dedicated more than 20 years of her life in advocacy for the promotion of human rights and peace and over 10 years managing funding and programs on women, youth and other marginalized groups, working with Government, local and international organizations.
Education & other engagements
Served as a Commissioners of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights(INCHR) .Prior to this assignment she had served as Executive Director of the INCHR and Project Manager for the Palava Hut Project of the INCHR leading on the INCHR implementation of the Liberia TRC recommendations. Prior to joining the INCHR she also served as the Country Director for World Hope int’l, Liberia, Gender and Protection Officer for Oxfam GB Liberia. She has served on the board of various organizations, including Liberia Educational Trust (LET), West Africa Network for Peace Building (WANEP), Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD), Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia and the Self-Help Initiative for sustainable development (SHIFSD). Tonieh is actively engaged in women and girls’ development and is also the Chief Commissioner of the Liberia Girls Guides Association (LGGA). Tonieh has also serve as a consultant for various organization including the UNFPA, Adam Smith International, Plan International Liberia, Ministry of Agriculture of Liberia and the UNDP.
Results
She holds an L.L.B degree from Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia, M.A in Gender and Peace building, United Nations University of Peace, Costa Rica and B.Sc. Economics, University of Liberia. She also attained several certificates including advance trainings in Women Leadership and Feminist Theory from Akina Mama wa Afrika, access to Justice (Washington and Lee University – School of Law), Facilitation skills, Policy Advocacy, and Network and Alliance Building from the West Africa Civil Society Institute.
Presently, Atty Talery-Wiles is the Founder and CEO of Women Entrepreneurs and Environmental Links Of Liberia (WEEL), and an associate member of the JSGB. Tonieh also serrves as the Chief Commissioner of the Liberia Girl Guides Association which is a member organization of the World association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, a member of the Liberia and a member of various national organizations including the African Women Lawyers ,Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia and the Sheroes Network of Africa
